St Georges Day Parade 2025
27 April @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Dear Parents,
I am writing to you regarding this year’s St George’s Day event being hosted by 4th Walton
Group.
Where, When and the Event Timetable
This year’s parade and church service is taking place from Elmgrove Recreation Ground,
Walton-on-Thames, KT12 2RF to St Mary’s Church, Church Walk, Walton-on-Thames,
KT12 2QS on Sunday 27th April 2025 at 1:15pm – 3:30pm.
The Parade is to assemble on the North-East side of Elmgrove Recreation Ground by the
fence that looks onto the Elmgrove allotments at 1:15pm (please see muster location map
attached).
Please aim to arrive/ drop your children off inside the Recreation Ground between 1:00pm
and 1:15pm. Please do not attempt to drop your children off directly outside the Recreation
Ground. Parents are welcome to stay for the parade, however will not be able to enter the
Church at the end of the parade due to lack of space inside.
At the end of the service, parents should aim to safely collect their children from within the
Church grounds at approximately 3:30pm. There will be no refreshments in the Church after
the service.
Parade Route
The parade route, as indicated in the ‘Muster & Parade Route Diagram’, is to start inside
Elmgrove Recreation Ground, parade down Highfield Road to Church Walk leading into St
Mary’s Church.
The parade will be marching in the road rather than on pavements. A Temporary Road
Closure has been approved by Elmbridge Borough Council and will be monitored by
volunteer marshals. The cross sections of Highfield Road at Winchester Road and
Churchfield Road will be blocked off by traffic cones, barriers and road closed signs.
Please do not attempt to park in these roads/ move when the parade is taking place. The road
closures will re-open as the back of the parade passes through so traffic can continue. It is
expected Highfield Road will be closed for a maximum of 15-20 minutes.
Volunteer marshals
If you have volunteered to be a marshal for the parade, please arrive at Elmgrove Recreation
Ground for a full briefing from the Parade Commander Callum Stewart and lead marshal,
Adrian Davies at 1pm at the latest. If you have your own/ multiple high-vis vests/ jackets,
please also bring these.
Dress code and what to bring
All Scouts (i.e. all Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network members, Active
Support Unit Members and Warranted Leaders and Helpers) are to be smartly dressed in full
uniform. Footwear on the day should be polished black shoes. Only Scouting decorations are
to be worn in the appropriate position.
Extreme Weather Conditions Contingency Plan
The contingency plan for extreme weather conditions is: the parade will be cancelled and the
District should arrive at St James’ Church for 2:20pm.
Car Parking and Arrival
We strongly encourage the sharing of cars as parking is limited and to reduce overall traffic
congestion in the area.
There is no parking on the perimeter of Elmgrove Recreation Ground. Parents should use
public car parks around Walton.
Please note, Elmgrove Recreation Ground car park is very small and will likely be closed off
due to our temporary road closure on Highfield Road. Please familiarise yourself with
alternative car parks around Walton.
Charity and Donations
This year 4th Walton will be collecting on behalf of Mindworks (https://www.mindworkssurrey.
org). There will be a collection during the Church service, please encourage the Scouts
to have some change on the day.
